OneNote vs. Evernote: These are the differences

Both OneNote and Evernote are note-taking apps that you can use to organize your personal matters as well as professional projects. However, despite the many similarities, there are some differences that may influence your decision to use one of the programs.

What differences are relevant?

At the outset, it should be said that there are more similarities than differences in the programs, which means that deciding which program to use is not easy and ultimately depends on details.
  1. One difference between the two programs is that Evernote is more tag-based compared to OneNote. This allows entries to be found more quickly and information from the Internet to be better organized. However, the classic notebook character is lost due to this circumstance.
  2. While OneNote is completely free, you have to purchase for the premium version of Evernote, which you need to get enough storage space as well as to use all features. You can either pay 5 euros every month or make an annual payment of 40 euros.
  3. OneNote offers you the possibility to freely organize and format your notes. This is not given with Evernote. Therefore, Evernote can be understood more as a search engine for your own content.

What should you choose?

If you work a lot with content from the Internet, then Evernote is a real option due to its good search and storage functions - especially if you base your own thoughts on these findings. However, if you are more interested in brainstorming and want to create notes freely, then OneNote is the better option.
