Tidying up your hard drive - how to make room for new things

With the help of a hard drive you can store your personal data and photos externally and thus create space on your internal hard drive. However, the external storage medium should also be cleaned up at regular intervals. To do this, connect the hard drive to your computer.

Clear out your hard drive: free up space

To free up space on your hard drive, you need to delete existing data on the hard drive. Here, however, you should carefully consider whether you really no longer need the respective files, because after deletion, they are gone for good. You can easily clean up your system hard disk using on-board tools. To do this, navigate to "Apps & Features" in the Windows settings and uninstall programs that are no longer needed. In addition, you can use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary and no longer needed data from the hard drive.

Clean up your external hard drive by deleting data

How to delete existing data from your external hard drive:
  1. Connect the external hard drive to any PC.
  2. The PC should recognize the hard drive within a short time and show you this.
  3. Now you can open the hard drive via your PC and view all the media stored there.
  4. Now search for the media to be deleted.
  5. Select a file by clicking on it once. In the upper field now appear all the important information about the particular file. Next to this information, there is the field "Delete".
  6. Select this and subsequently the respective file is removed from the external hard drive.
  7. This process you go through for all files that you want to delete. Thus, you can free up new space on the hard drive.
