To use a GIF, you can either draw on an existing image from a GIF database or create a GIF yourself.

1. One app that both contains ready-made GIFs and allows you to create new ones is Giphy. Giphy is available for free for iOS and Android devices and contains more than 150 million different GIFs. To create a GIF yourself using Giphy, simply click on the "Create" button and select a video or several images.
2. To create your own GIFs from your photos, the Boomerang app is suitable. This comes from the creators of Instagram and creates a short video from photo series with a maximum of 10 photos, which you can then share directly on Instagram or Facebook.

How to use WhatsApp for GIF creation

If you do not want to install an extra app to use or create GIFs, WhatsApp will help you. To create a GIF, first open the chat in WhatsApp in which you want to send the GIF. Then tap on the "Camera icon" (Android) or the "Plus icon" (iOS) to select a video from the gallery or to record it. Now shorten the video so that it is a maximum of six seconds long and tap on "GIF" in the top right corner to convert the video into a GIF.
