Formatting for Mac and Windows - here's how

In order for you to use any storage medium for both Mac and Windows, it must first be formatted accordingly. This way, both your Mac and Windows PC will be able to read and write to this media.

How to format for Mac and Windows

Depending on your operating system, it is necessary to format your storage device accordingly so that it can be used on both systems.

Formatting with Windows

1. First, connect your storage device.
2. In the Start menu, go to the "Computer" sub-item and select your storage device from the "Devices with removable media" menu.
3. Click this with right and then navigate to "Format".
4. Now select "FAT 32" as the file system, which also enables your Mac to access it.
5. Now you can assign a name for it under "Volume Name".
6. If necessary, also set a check mark at "Quick Format".
7. With a click on "Start" and then on "OK" the formatting begins.

Formatierung unter Mac

1. Als erstes schließen Sie Ihr Speichermedium an Ihren Mac an.
2. Nun wechseln Sie im Programm-Ordner in den Unterpunkt „Dienstprogramme“.
3. Im Festplattendienstprogramm werden Ihnen nun alle Speichermedien angezeigt.
4. Wählen Sie das Speichermedium aus, das Sie formatieren möchten. Hierbei werden alle Dateien gelöscht.
5. Nun wählen Sie Partitionieren aus.
6. Jetzt haben Sie die Möglichkeit, unter „Volume-Schema“ auszuwählen, wie viele Partitionen angefertigt werden sollen.
7. Anschließend klicken Sie auf „Optionen“ und dort auf „Master Boot Record“.
8. Bestätigen Sie die Auswahl mit „OK“.
9. Unter „Volume-Informationen“ vergeben Sie einen Namen.
10. Unter Format sollten Sie „MS-DOS-Dateisystem (FAT)“ auswählen und dies anschließend mit „Anwenden“ und „Partitionieren“ bestätigen.
