FaceTime is available to all users of an iOS device to make audio and video calls over the Internet. However, depending on where and how you use it, you may incur costs as a result of FaceTime. We explain what these are and how you can use FaceTime for free here.

These costs apply when using FaceTime

FaceTime is a video calling app developed exclusively for iOS devices. FaceTime is pre-installed on all Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad and can be used for video chats and calls. However, the use is only possible if your conversation partner also has an iOS device.

1. Basically, the use of FaceTime is free of charge, since the app is already preinstalled and the conclusion of a subscription is not required.
2. Since the Internet connection is used to transmit the calls, costs may still be incurred for the use of FaceTime if you are not on the WLAN network or do not have a flat rate for your mobile data.
3. Also when making FaceTime calls abroad, on a plane or on a ship, there may be, through data roaming, additional costs when using the mobile data network.

Costs: How to use FaceTime correctly

If the question of costs is clarified, nothing stands in the way of starting a video call with your friends or relatives. To start a new conversation, please open the FaceTime app first. Then tap the "Plus icon" and enter the phone number or e-mail address before tapping the "Handset icon" or the "Video icon". If the data of the person you are talking to is saved on your device as a contact, you can alternatively enter their name.
