Set up a new hard drive - here's how to do it

If your old hard drive doesn't work anymore or the space is full, then you need to get a new hard drive. If you have purchased a new hard drive for your PC, you will need to set it up first. A setup can be done via Disk Management on your PC.

Set up a new hard drive using Disk Management

To set up a new hard drive using Disk Management, first launch it.Press the Windows icon, type "compmgmt.msc" and click "OK". In the window that opens, select "Disk Management" so that you can see your drives and disks. Then you need to create a new partition.
  1. Select your hard drive in the "Disk Management" window and right-click "Create Partition".
  2. Finally click "Next" and select the type of partition. Then go to "Next" again.
  3. Indicate the size of the partition in the Partition Size in MB field and assign the drive letter manually.
  4. Finally confirm the correctness of your selected options with "OK" and then click "Finish".
  5. Your new hard drive should now appear in My Computer on your PC with the manually selected drive letter and can now be used.

Another method to set up a hard drive

Alternatively, the setup of the new hard drive is also possible via the Run dialog. Open it by pressing "Windows key" + "R" and execute the command "diskmgmt.msc". Then search for the new hard disk in the list that appears, right-click on it and select "Disk initialization". Set the partition form and confirm with "OK".
