Spotify: Set the highest quality - here's how it works

Spotify users with sensitive ears always want to hear the best possible quality. Fortunately, Spotify gives you the opportunity to do just that. Our guide explains how to go about it.

Spotify offers premium users up to 320 kbit/s, while the free subscription is only half that.

A sound quality of 320 kbit/s already sounds very clear to most users. If you suspect that the quality is worse, you can manually set the highest quality.

Spotify: Highest quality can be set automatically

Normally, Spotify always gives you the best possible quality, unless set otherwise. You can check this at any time and adjust it if necessary:
  1. Tap on "Start" and open the "Settings".
  2. There you can set the desired level under "Sound Quality".
There are different levels and these depend on the subscription:
  • Free users get a maximum of 160 kbit/s, in the web player even only 128 kbit/s.
  • Premium subscribers get up to 320 kbit/s, in the web player it is only 256 kbit/s.
If you activate "Automatic", Spotify adjusts the quality depending on the Internet connection. It can occasionally happen that the highest quality is not retrieved, although this would be possible. In diesem Fall hilft Ihnen die gezeigte Anleitung, um 320 kbit/s manuell einzustellen.
