Microsoft Excel: How to smooth curves in a chart

Diagrams with curves can be created in Excel in a few steps. If there are jagged sections due to the data series, you can smooth them out. We show you how to proceed.

Fine tuning: Excel charts can be adjusted afterwards, for example by smoothed curves.

We have already summarized tips for creating an Excel chart here. Functions such as smoothed curves are subsequently for further editing.

Excel: Smooth curves in the chart - here's how

Proceed as follows:
  1. Click with the right mouse button on the curve you want to smooth.
  2. Select "Format data series".
  3. The options appear on the right side of the screen. Open the "Line" area.
  4. Check the "Smooth Line" box at the very bottom.
The curve will now be smoothed, making it look smoother and more even. Jagged gradients look less distracting and this increases the quality of the visualization.
