What processor do I have? How to read your CPU

The processor is the heart of your computer, but it works in secret. Because if you want to read directly from the chip which processor you have, you have to disassemble your computer. Fortunately, however, there are easier ways that you can use to find out the serial number.

Read out your CPU using on-board tools: Which processor do I have?

In the Windows on-board tools you can find some information about which devices are installed in your system. Here you can also see, for example, which processor you have.
  1. In Windows 10, right-click on the Windows icon and select "System" from the menu.
  2. Tap on "Info" afterwards.
  3. You will see various information about your system. Under "Device specifications" you will also find the line "Processor". Behind it you read the model name of the device.
Alternatively, the readout of the processor is also possible with DirectX. To do this, press the key combination "Windows" + "R", run the command "dxdiag" and read the processor information in the tab "System".

Find out the model with free tools

Alternatively to Windows, there are also free programs that tell you more about the individual components of your PC. Probably the best-known tool for this is CPU-Z. The software not only shows you which processor you have, but also reads out a lot of other data. For example, how fast your processor works and how it is clocked. To put your processor to the test, you can start a stress test directly in the program.CPU-Z is especially recommended if you want to find out more about other components of your system. So you can find out how your memory works or read out the serial number of your graphics card.
