Dual Boot: Setting up two Windows systems

If you want to use older and newer programs on one PC, this can often lead to unexpected difficulties. As a rule, it is worthwhile in this case to install two Windows versions on your PC, between which you can then easily switch back and forth.

How do you install two Windows systems on one PC?

Before installing a second Windows, you should definitely make a backup of your system so that no data is lost in case of emergency. Furthermore, you need a boot medium with the second Windows version. As a rule, a USB stick is best suited here.
  1. Put the USB stick into the PC and start it.
  2. Now you need to get into the boot menu. With which key this works is usually in the manual of your motherboard. Often used keys are F2, F8, F11 and F12.
  3. Select the USB stick as boot media.
  4. Now the Windows installation wizard appears. When selecting the partition on which to install Windows, now select another free partition that does not have the current Windows installed.
  5. Attention: The partition will be completely cleaned before installation and all data will be deleted.
  6. When you restart your PC after installation, you will not be taken directly to the Windows startup screen. Stattdessen wird Ihnen die Wahl zwischen den zwei Windows-Versionen angezeigt und Sie können sich nun entscheiden, bei welchem System Sie sich anmelden.
