Making your phone louder: here's how to do it

Once you've started your smartphone for the first time, it's usually time to set it up. After that, you can use it to watch videos, listen to music and make calls. If the volume is too low for you, there are several ways to increase it.

How to turn up your phone volume

If your device is too quiet for you, you can usually adjust the volume via buttons on the outside or via the settings.

1. Whether you have an Apple device or an Android smartphone, you can adjust the volume via buttons. These are usually located on the left or right side of the device. These include a volume down button and a volume up button.
2. On an Android device, you can change certain sounds via separate settings. To do this, press a volume button and select the menu icon on the right. Depending on the version, this can be a slider icon or a gear icon.
3. Here you can now adjust the media, call, ringtone and alarm volume. Some Android versions also allow the adjustment directly via the Settings app.
4. On iOS devices, open the "Settings" app and tap "Sounds". Here you can adjust the ringing and notification tones via the slider.
5. The phone can also be made louder via the control center.
6. For video and music content, the corresponding apps usually offer separate setting options. So you can turn the music louder without changing the volume of other sounds.
