Configuring the network: How to proceed

For computers to communicate within a network, it must be properly configured. Fortunately, the operating system and most hardware components do much of this work for you. Therefore, configuring a network is usually easy to set up.

How to configure the network on Windows

Network configuration can be accessed on a Windows PC within a few clicks.

1. Click on the start icon and then on "Settings" and select "Network and Internet".
2. Under "Advanced Network Settings" click on "Network and Sharing Center".
3. Click on the item "Set up new connections or new network" to configure your network.
4. By clicking on "Set up new network", you can add a new router or access point to your network.

Make sure that the same protocol is installed on all network devices. This acts like a language that allows communication between devices. The standard is TCP/IP, which is installed in every operating system. All network devices also need an individual IP address and must belong to the same workgroup.
