Switching Android launchers - how to do it

The launcher you use on your Android device determines the design of your home screen and app icons. Instead of using the launcher installed by default, you can switch to a different launcher. We will show you how to do that in this article.

How to switch to a new Android launcher

With a launcher, you have the possibility to change the look of your homescreen individually. Most of these launchers are available for free in the Play Store and provide a large selection of themes, icons and widgets after download. If a standard launcher is already available on your smartphone and you want to change it, please proceed as follows.
  1. Download the desired launcher to your device and launch it after successful installation.
  2. After that, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap the wrench icon to enter the launcher's settings.
  3. Here you can now specify that the launcher is used every time you start the device by tapping on "Set as default launcher".

Android launcher: How to switch back to the default launcher

Have you installed a launcher on your Android device and want to switch back to the default launcher, this is possible at any time via the settings of the device. To do this, tap the gear icon on the display to open the settings and navigate to "Apps" > "All" in them. Then search for the currently used launcher in the list of apps and tap the "Remove default" button. After that, press the home button of your smartphone and select the default launcher in the window that appears under "Select start app".
