GIMP: Adding fonts - here's how to do it
As in other graphics programs, GIMP gives you the option to use all the fonts installed on your computer. If you want to expand the collection, you need to install the new fonts on your system. How you have to proceed with the installation depends on the operating system.
Windows: how to add new fonts to GIMP
GIMP automatically loads all fonts installed on your system when you start the program. Follow these steps to install new fonts:- Download the font you want to install. You can find hundreds of free fonts on download portals like DaFont.
- Close GIMP if you have the application open.
- Open the downloaded ZIP archive and run the TTF (TrueType font) file. A new window will open with an overview of all characters included in the font and a font sample.
- Click "Install" to add the font to your collection.
- Now launch GIMP, you can select the new font via the font tool.
How to install new fonts on your Mac
If you are using GIMP on a Mac, adding new fonts works similarly to how it works on a Windows machine.- Close GIMP and run the downloaded TTF file. Although the TTF format is a Windows format, conversion is not necessary. A new window will open with a preview of the font.
- Click "Install". Once the font collection opens, the installation is complete.
- Now start GIMP, you can use the new font.
