Facebook: Turn off personalized ads

Once you've Googled something or seen an ad on TV, Facebook shows you specific ads. This can be very annoying as you reveal so much of your privacy. However, you have the option to bypass personalized ads, even if it doesn't make you use Facebook ad-free.

Turn off Facebook's personalized ads

Since Facebook collects a lot of data from you, the app will show you ads that might match your supposed interests. However, you can also bypass these ads.
  1. First, open the Facebook app or use the version on your PC. In the settings, look for the option "Ads".
  2. Now a menu appears in which you specify your personal preferences. Crucial are the first three sub-items that are displayed to you.
  3. For maximum privacy, click on "Edit" and specify "No" for the first two options, and "No one" for the third sub-item.
  4. Facebook will now no longer show you any new ads based on your information. To delete the existing data as well, call up the "Settings for ads".
  5. Facebook will now list all the interests that have been determined based on your user behavior or information. If you want to delete any of them, click on the "X" that you find in the right margin.

You can only manually delete the data that Facebook collects about you. However, the collection starts over and over again. Due to this, you should repeat the manual deletion of your data regularly.
