Using Facebook Messenger without Facebook

You actually want to turn your back on Facebook but still don't want to do without the communication options via Messenger? Then you can simply continue to use this feature of Facebook without having to open an account again or reactivate an existing profile.

How does it work?

Surely, this way of using Messenger is not intended by Facebook. Therefore, you should not necessarily consider the variant as a permanent communication option.
  1. First, open the App Store or the Google Play Store and search therein specifically for Facebook Messenger. Download the app to your smartphone.
  2. After the app has been installed on your smartphone, you need to set it up.
  3. First, Messenger will tell you that you should ideally link the app to an existing account. Negate this option and click that you want it to operate without an account.
  4. Now you need to enter your phone number and confirm it with the SMS code that will be sent to you.
  5. If Facebook now associates you with an old account, you need to click "This is not my account" to continue.
  6. Now you will be asked for a photo and if you want to sync your contacts, call logs as well as SMS history. These steps are optional. After that, you can use Facebook Messenger.

This is what you should keep in mind

Although you are now not operating an account with Facebook, the service still continues to collect data about you and your conversations. Because of this, you should think about another form of communication if you place great value on your privacy.
