GeForce NOW: What bandwidth is needed? An overview

The most important technical criterion that still has to be met on the user side when it comes to cloud gaming is bandwidth. Our guide explains which Internet connection is required for GeForce NOW.

The more, the better: GeForce NOW clearly benefits from high bandwidths.

The fact that bandwidth is crucial for performance in cloud gaming is well illustrated by the example of Google Stadia. It looks similar with Nvidia's GeForce NOW.

GeForce NOW: Higher bandwidth always welcome

Officially, the following requirements apply (as formulated here in the Nvidia FAQ):

• In any case, your bandwidth should be at least 15 Mbps. This will allow for 720p resolution at 60 FPS, but consistently smooth performance is not guaranteed. This applies, among other things, if your line is still being used by other applications, such as Netflix streaming or a download. Ideally, you should therefore have a bandwidth of 25 Mbit/s available.
• For 1080p resolution and 60 FPS, 25 Mbit/s are required. However, it is also clear here: this is the minimum, it may be gladly more. The advantage of a 50 line is clearly noticeable.

Since high bandwidths are now available at most residences in Germany, an upgrade for cloud gamers is definitely worth considering.Additionally, Nvidia recommends connecting the end device to the router via cable. Regarding the router, a 5 GHz model is recommended. These requirements are by no means unrealistic nowadays. Thus, the market does not provide unaffordable solutions for those who want to enter cloud gaming properly.
