Removing PDF watermarks - how to do it

Watermarks can usually be removed with a simple trick. However, depending on the program used to create it, there are safeguards that protect certain parts of the document from being altered. This makes removing a watermark much more difficult.

Can a watermark be removed from PDF documents?

If a PDF you have received or created contains a watermark, it may be possible to remove it. Often, free PDF programs insert watermarks into documents that show the program's logo. This is unsuitable for official documents. One option is to convert the PDF into a Word document. In this case, the watermark is usually converted into an image that can be easily deleted.If the document was protected from editing by third parties with a password, this trick is not applicable. In this case, you can try to decrypt the document with a program from the network and bypass the password protection. If the watermark is in an otherwise blank spot, you can also open the document in an image editor and place a white rectangle over the watermark.

Remove watermark with Word

1. Open the PDF with Word.
2. You will be asked if Word should convert the document to a .docx file.
3. Confirm with "OK".
4. Click on the watermark.
5. Press [DEL] on the keyboard.
6. The watermark will now be deleted.
