Corona warning app shows red: What to do now?

The Corona warning app is used for risk detection and is used by many millions of Germans. Our guide explains what a red indicator means and what to do then.

Important note: A red indicator means that you have had contact with an infected person.

As the number of infections increases, so does the risk for individuals to become infected with COVID-19. The Corona Warning app can provide an important clue to this.

Red or Green: How the Corona Warning app works

The Corona Warning app works with two colors:
  • Green means you have had no contact with anyone who has reported being infected.
  • Red consequently stands for the opposite: in this case, you have had contact with a person who has reported as infected within the last two weeks.
Many details remain open, however: you do not see in the app when and where exactly you met this person, how long the encounter lasted and how great the distance was. It may therefore be possible that you have been infected, but this is by no means certain.
  • The recommended action is therefore to behave initially all the more cautious and avoid social contacts for the time being, as far as possible.
  • The trip to the test center or doctor is not yet necessary, however. Dies ändert sich erst dann, falls Sie Symptome der Viruserkrankung bemerken.
Eine rote Anzeige in der Corona-Warn-App ist folglich ein Grund zur Vorsicht, aber noch kein Anlass für Panik.
