Writing PDF: Easy with Word or Open Office

The abbreviation PDF stands for "Portable Document Format". The format was developed by Adobe in the 1990s and is now the standard for electronic documents. A PDF can be created with any word processing program and also with image editing programs such as GIMP or Photoshop.

The advantages of PFD files

PDF documents have many advantages. They can be opened with Acrobat Reader, which is free and available on all operating systems. The browser and countless other free programs can also be used for this purpose. Moreover, PDFs cannot be easily modified with the Reader and are always displayed in the same way. This helps you avoid formatting problems that often occur with text files when they are opened with another program. Fonts can even be embedded, so that they are displayed even if another user does not have the font installed. PDF documents can be created with all common word processing programs.

Create PDFs with word processing programs

  1. Open a document in Word or OpenOffice.
  2. Select "File".
  3. Click "Save As".
  4. Vergeben Sie einen Dateinamen und wählen Sie einen Speicherort.
  5. Klicken Sie unter dem Eingabefeld für den Dateinamen auf die Drop-Down-Liste.
  6. Wählen Sie „PDF“.
  7. Klicken Sie auf „Speichern“.
