• The most frequently cited reason is that a dark screen is less strenuous on the eyes. In fact, bright displays can be quite painful especially in dark environments.

• For some users, it is also simply a matter of taste: Those who prefer dark designs for aesthetic reasons will find a remedy in Dark Mode.

In return, it should be noted that dark displays might be less legible in very bright environments. This is especially true in direct sunlight.
