macOS: Enable Dark Mode - how it works

For a long time Apple users had to wait for a dark mode. With macOS Mojave it was finally time and the Dark Mode was introduced. MacOS Mojave appeared in the fall of 2018 as the successor to High Sierra. Since then, you can activate the mode at will via the device's settings.

A pleasant option: Dark Mode makes macOS Mojave appear dark throughout.

macOS Mojave: How to activate Dark Mode

Individual areas such as the menu bar and Dock could already be darkened in macOS for several years. But only with the new Dark Mode you can darken the entire operating system. To do this, you just have to navigate to the settings of your device to activate the corresponding option.
  1. Click on the Apple logo at the top to open the corresponding menu.
  2. Select "System Preferences" and switch to the "General" section.
  3. Set the "Appearance" to "Dark". With "Light" you deactivate the Dark Mode again, if desired.
  4. Alternatively, you can select the item "Automatic". With this, the light mode is activated during the day and as soon as it is night, the appearance is changed to "Dark".
The Dark Mode from macOS Mojave affects the entire visible surface and all apps. The mode thus creates a completely new atmosphere. The dark ambience with lower contrasts has a calming effect on the eyes and is therefore especially popular in the evening. Many users even apply the dark mode throughout, but that is, as always, a question of one's own preferences.
