Word: Insert average character - find it here

It may be necessary to use the average character especially for study papers or reports for professional purposes. But on the normal keyboard you will not find this element. Therefore, we will tell you how to insert an average character into your Word documents.

How to insert the average sign

Both in some Scandinavian languages and in mathematical or business representations, you need the average sign, which you can find as follows:
  1. Start your PC and open in Word the document in which you want to insert an average sign.
  2. Now you can use the combination of "ALT" and "157". You must use a classic numeric keypad to enter the numbers.
  3. If you do not have a classic numeric keypad, then enter the numbers using the Word menu.
  4. Once you have applied the combination, the "Subset" drop-down menu appears.
  5. You will now see a list of options, from which you must click "Latin-1 (Supplement)" and confirm your selection.
  6. The average character will now appear in your text.

Work smart

If you need to use the average character more often, especially in a continuous text, then you should first insert a placeholder in the text. This will save you time and later you can insert the average character once, as described above, and copy it afterwards.
