Encrypt files: Mac - so no one can get at the data

The topic of data security is ubiquitous in many areas. Even you as a normal user can make your files more secure on the PC by encrypting them. The Mac already offers options to encrypt files or an entire partition out of the box. To do this, simply use Disk Utility.

This is how you encrypt files on your Mac

To encrypt a file or files, you first need to group them together in one place on your PC.
  1. Create a folder into which you move all the data you want to back up.
  2. Use Spotlight Search (Command + Spacebar) to look for Disk Utility. Open the program.
  3. Top In the menu bar, select "File", then "New Image" and "Image of Folder...".
  4. In the selection now select the folder with the data to be encrypted.
  5. Select the encryption "256-bit AES" and specify a path under which the partition should be created.
  6. With a password you can now encrypt the protected file.
