HTML: "a href" and "title" - we explain link titles

H headings are quickly set in HTML. However, not all users are aware that links can also be given a title. Our guide introduces the title attribute for "a href".

In HTML, you can make a big impact with details.

We have explained the meaning of "a href" in more detail here. Complementary to this now follows the "title" tag.

This is what the "title" tag brings to "a href"

With "title" you add your own title to an "a href" link. Here are the most important tips and info:
  • The correct spelling is: <a href="example-page.com" title="example-title">link-text</a>
  • The content of "title" becomes visible when you hover over the link in the frontend view (without clicking).
  • "title" is thus well suited to provide links with additional information in addition to the link text.
If implemented well, "title" can consequently lead to links being clicked on more frequently or that the perceived relevance for readers increases. After all, the more the reader knows about a link, the higher the chance that the content will meet expectations after the click. The extra work for "title" in "a href" links can therefore be well worth it.
