Valheim: Rent a server? These are the pros and cons

With several players Valheim unfolds its full potential - and gladly over several weeks or even more. If the normal options are not enough for you, you can rent your own server.

Online at any time - but not for free: Rental servers for Valheim are currently very popular.

There are both advantages and disadvantages. We take a look at these below.

Renting a Valheim server: Who is it suitable for?

Generally, Valheim itself offers all players the possibility to start a multiplayer session.
  • This is pleasantly simple, as explained here.
  • The disadvantage, however, is that the host has to be online so that the other players can join as well. This is not necessarily efficient in terms of time, since each session depends on the host.
  • A rented server solves this problem: all eligible players can join at any time, regardless of a particular host. The server is online around the clock and thus always available.
  • This service is not free, however. The cost varies depending on the provider as well as the features booked.
Known names for this type of hosting are, for example, GPortal, Nitrado and Contabo - the selection is still much larger, as a quick search shows. In terms of price, it starts at under 10 euros, as durations of a few days are also offered.
