Laptop won't boot up - what helps?

When your laptop won't boot up, it can stress you out. However, before you visit a specialist dealer for troubleshooting, there are several things you can try beforehand to fix the problem yourself.

These may be the cause when your laptop won't boot

Frequently, it's very trivial things that cause your laptop to stop working. Some of them you can fix yourself.
  1. The battery: If the battery is dirty or defective, then it may be that your laptop no longer receives power and thus does not boot. Take out the battery, clean it and try again.
  2. The power supply: the power supply can also be the problem. The easiest way to check is to try a network cable from another device that has been proven to work. If the power supply is the fault, you can get a replacement unit for 5 to 15 euros in specialized stores or on the Internet.
  3. The display can also be defective. To check this source of error, you can connect your laptop to the TV or another display and try in the connection, whether it works after all.
  4. If you hear beeps, the BIOS may be the problem. Here, too, you can fix most errors themselves.

Seek alternative help

If your laptop no longer has a warranty, so the repair by the manufacturer can be costly. Therefore, as a student, you should check with the university or even other colleges to see if they have a more cost-effective way to repair your device.
