Backlash on Mac - how to find it on the keyboard

Unlike classic punctuation marks like periods and commas, you won't find the backlash as easily on your Mac's keyboard. While the backlash isn't a symbol you'll need in your day-to-day work with your Mac, you should still know how to set a backlash.

How to set a backlash

Especially if you are interested in programming or would like to start, you should know how to set a backlash.
  1. The backlash is a special character that you create with a key combination. This is because there is no single key on the Mac keyboard for it.
  2. First, press the "Alt" and "Shift" keys simultaneously. Following this, you must press the number "7".
  3. It is important that you press the number on the numeric keypad of your Mac and not above the letters. Only in this way the backlash can be generated.
  4. Following this, the backlash appears at the desired position.

Save time

Memorizing the special characters when you only need them for a short time is cumbersome. Therefore, it is a good idea to write down the keyboard shortcuts for Mac. However, if you need special characters more often in a document, you do not have to create them more than once. Compose the document and set a placeholder for the special characters. Finally, create the special character once and copy & paste it where you want it. This saves time and you can work more effectively.
