Enabling Bixby Assistant - how to do it

To enable the Bixby Assistant available on many Samsung smartphones, you can choose between two methods. Which one is usable for you depends on your smartphone model. We will show you how to activate the voice assistant via voice command or by pressing a button in this article.

How to enable Bixby Assistant on your smartphone

Bixby is a voice assistant developed by Samsung for the brand's smartphones. If you have a Samsung smartphone on which the Bixby voice assistant is integrated, it can be activated quite simply by voice input. However, the prerequisite for this is that your smartphone is connected to the WLAN or mobile data and you are logged into your Samsung account.

1. To use Bixby, please first activate the screen of your smartphone and then say the word "Bixby" so that the voice assistant is switched on.
2. If you have a device with a Bixby button, you can also activate Bixby by pressing the corresponding button.
3. Once Bixby has been activated, you can tell the assistant what you want it to do by saying so or typing on the keyboard.

How to deactivate the voice assistant

If your Samsung smartphone has Bixby, but you do not want to use the voice assistant, there is as yet no way to delete it completely from your device. However, you can disable Bixby instead. To do so, press the "Bixby button" on your smartphone and select the "Settings" option in the menu. Then navigate here to "Speech answer" > "Hands-free only" and set the entry "Listen automatically" to "Never". Additionally, turn off the automatic voice activation and the options "Use when phone is locked" and "Bixby dictation function".
