Internet isn't working: Here's why
If you're having trouble accessing the Internet with your computer, problems with your equipment or with your Internet provider are possibilities. Go troubleshooting step by step to find the cause. First, however, you should check your hardware.
Fixing problems with the Internet connection
If your computer does not connect to the Internet, both problems with your devices and server problems at your provider are possible. A systematic search will help to get to the bottom of the error. In doing so, you need to check your router and your computer. It is helpful to have another device available for testing.- Restart your computer.
- Switch the router off and on again. Check if the LED for WLAN or LAN on the device lights up.
- Open the Network Center and click on "Fix Problems". Wait until the diagnosis is completed.
- Test whether you can access the Internet with other devices.
- If you usually use WLAN, try to connect your computer with a LAN cable.
- If necessary, check the LAN cable for damage and replace it. Also, test the cabling on the router to see if it is plugged in correctly or if a cable is possibly defective.
- When using WLAN, test if the Internet works when you are closer to the router.
- If you have Internet access with a mobile device, you can look at a fault indicator to see if there are outages with your Internet provider.
