A diamond is forever, even in space: the new business among the stars

Diamonds that have been in space represent the latest gamble of a company specialized in objects that have "lived" an experience among the stars

Diamonds don't give birth to anything? Fabrizio De Andrè could change his mind after reading how the business conceived by an English company specialized in space memorabilia works. The company is called The Space Collective and is based in Liverpool: in recent years it has made itself known for its particular business proposals, always linked to the cosmos and the stars. The new idea is to send into orbit some diamonds that will be "hosted" on board the International Space Station and then return to Earth and become an item to be sold at prices not suitable for all wallets. The details of the unusual space mission have been made known in recent days.

In September 2022, the diamonds will climb on the SpaceX Dragon capsule and will be among the protagonists of the CRS-26 mission of the company founded by Elon Musk (imagine if there could not be the hand of the number one of Tesla in such an initiative). After the "stay" on the ISS, they will return to our planet, to be precise in May 2023 and, after another month, will begin sales to the first customers. The price? Already the precious stones are not cheap for those who have certain economic possibilities, the space ones are even less: the price list chosen by The Space Collective is close to 34 thousand pounds, the equivalent of over 43 thousand euros.

The prices of space diamonds

The "cheapest" diamonds will be those that will cost just under two thousand pounds, specifically 0.3 carats, while the maximum price will guarantee the beauty of two carats. The British company has already well publicized the new initiative: in the website you can read verbatim "Donate yourself to the stars with a real space diamond that has been on board the International Space Station". In the business will be involved even the astronauts of the ISS, called to bring with them the diamonds during spacewalks, so as to ensure that these stones have really floated in the cosmos.

The unique characteristics

To ensure that the lucky customers don't miss anything, each piece will have its own laser engraving, a procedure necessary for authentication and to distinguish it from "normal" diamonds. The guarantee is that it has traveled 120 million kilometers and has orbited about 6,000 times around the Earth, not exactly characteristics found in any precious present in jewelry. The Space Collective has thought of everything, including the container in which to place the stones during the mission, the so-called MISSE (Materials International Space Station Experiment). As already mentioned, the company is not new to offers of this kind.

Previously it has tried to amaze its customers with other space memorabilia, not all of them however with an experience among the stars. The Space Collective has managed to get bargains on NASA-branded clothing and even items used in movies where space missions were played out. Flags and photographs complete the list of goods offered for sale more frequently. To order a space diamond, however, it will be necessary to hurry, as the terms will expire in April 2022, therefore in four months. The English company is based in Liverpool, the same city of the Beatles, and its hope is to emulate the Fab Four and be even more successful "across the universe".
