The autofill feature is, without a doubt, very convenient. However, it may put our privacy at risk. Here's how to turn it off
Chrome's autofill is a feature that allows Google's browser to automatically fill out forms within web pages, doing it for you. For example, when you buy something on Amazon, Chrome can enter all your information such as your first name, last name, address, phone number, and email address.
If you care about your privacy, though, you might choose to disable Chrome's auto-fill forms. Doing so is undoubtedly a privacy benefit (because you're not allowing Chrome to store your personal data), but at the same time it deprives you of a great convenience and forces you to manually enter data on every site that asks for it. Even new ones, because the auto-fill is tied to a name+surname+address and not to a specific site. When you start filling out a form on a site you've never visited before, in fact, if you enter your name, Chrome already suggests you all the other data.
How to disable autofill in Chrome
If you want to disable autofill on Chrome, you have to open the settings from the menu at the top right, the one with the three vertical dots. Here you'll find the Autofill section with three options: "Passwords", "Payment methods" and "Addresses and more". This last one is the one that interests us, click it and Chrome will show you all the saved addresses, connected to a first and last name. To disable the feature you have to click on the "Save and fill in addresses" toggle.
How to remove already saved information from Chrome
With the maneuver just described you do nothing but disable automatic form filling, but the data saved by Chrome remains. By clicking on the three dots to the right of each address, however, you have the option to edit or remove each entry. Clicking "Remove" won't ask you to confirm, so be very careful. To be even more sure that all your address information is deleted from Chrome, you have to proceed to clear your browsing data. To do this, go back to the main settings page and, under "Privacy and Security", click on "Clear browsing data" and then on the "Advanced" tab. Here you'll find the checkbox to clear the "Automatic form filling data". Check it and then click on "Clear Data".
