NFC range - the information you should know

NFC is the abbreviation for Near Field Communication technology, which is used to make contactless payments by card or with smartphones. However, the range of NFC is very small and is only a few centimeters. Due to the short range, however, NFC technology is also less susceptible to unauthorized data theft by third parties. The speed of NFC technology is also rather low with a maximum of 424 kilobits. However, since NFC is only used to transmit small amounts of data over short distances, this does not pose a problem.

How NFC technology works

To pay using NFC technology, you need a smartphone or a debit or credit card with a corresponding chip. In addition, contactless payment via NFC is only possible if the card reader in a store also has an NFC chip.

1. Before you use your smartphone for payment for the first time, please install a suitable payment app such as Apple Pay or Google Pay on the device and set it up. If your bank offers its own NFC payment app, its use is also possible.
2. If the requirements for use are met, simply hold your smartphone or cash card directly over the reader at the checkout to pay for your purchase.
3. Depending on which phone model you are using, it is also necessary to type in a code to confirm the payment, which is displayed on the screen.
