Gmail: Turn smart features on & off - all info

To make managing and organizing your own emails as efficient as possible, Gmail has been offering the so-called smart features for a while now. Read what they are all about.

Drawer thinking: Gmail recognizes the purpose and content of your mails and classifies them appropriately.

An email is composed quickly - but thanks to the intelligent functions, overview and handling with Gmail should be particularly fast from the hand.

Gmail: These are the smart functions

In addition to Gmail, the smart functions also affect Google Chat and Meet. Since Gmail is the most important tool of the G-Suite for most users, the added value is especially apparent there:
  • Google automatically tries to filter and categorize incoming mail. Thus, pure advertising mails are recognized as such and land in a corresponding folder without disturbing the main overview.
  • The same applies to notifications and messages from social networks.
  • With summary cards, mails belonging to each other are presented appropriately. This facilitates, for example, all the info on a package shipment you expect.
  • When composing mails, you get suggestions - this is especially noticeable in mobile use.
Also handy: If an appointment occurs in a mail, you can simply extract it to the calendar. All these features can also be disabled if desired, under "Settings" in Gmail. A valid reason for this could be personalization - without smart features, Google works less with their data or your user behavior.
