SD switch-off of public broadcasters

ARD and ZDF will stop broadcasting their SD programs via satellite. In the middle of 2020 it should be so far. SD stands here for "Standard Definition" and refers to the resolution of the images. Other broadcasters such as RTL also want to switch off SD. With the procedure cost savings are promised.

What changes with the shutdown of SD?

1. The consequences of the shutdown sometimes bear the viewers. These must, should they not yet have an HD -capable receiver and television, the appropriate devices for expensive money anschaffen.
2. However, the reception of public channels is also free in HD, since every household in Germany already pays the broadcasting fee.
3. Anders behaves it with the private channels. Here, HD television costs about 6 euros per month. For this reason, only every fifth household currently has private HD channels.
4. So if the private channels would also stop their SD channels, it could happen that they forfeit a large number of customers. For this reason, no exact date has yet been set.
5. Generally, television is becoming increasingly unpopular and the youth of today is more likely to rely on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Co.
