Why the U.S. wanted to ban TikTok

Preliminarily, after much back and forth, American courts have decided not to ban TikTok for now.

• The reason for discussing a ban was political. Since TikTok is a Chinese company, they wanted to prevent it from gaining too much influence in the U.S. and thereby causing economic disadvantages for American networks.
• In addition, TikTok was repeatedly criticized in the past for security gaps in data protection and a lack of protection for minors.
• Nevertheless, these accusations were not enough to ban the network in the US, which is why it is still fully functional there.

Is a TikTok ban also possible in Germany?

After the attempted ban of TikTok in the U.S., it was also announced in Germany to have the privacy policies of the network reviewed. However, banning an app in Germany is not as easy as in the U.S., which is why the probability of a TikTok ban in Germany is sometimes rather low.
