Do I need to buy WoW Classic? We explain the situation

The release of WoW Classic was long awaited, but still exceeded all expectations. If you too want to get into the vanilla version, we clarify whether you need to buy the game or not.

When WoW Classic appeared at 00:01 on August 27, 2019, the servers could not cope with the rush. Blizzard's adventure attracts both returning nostalgics and newcomers - so it's colorful on the servers.

Buy WoW Classic - or is the game free?

It looks like this:

• WoW Classic has not been released as a standalone retail version. So you cannot buy the game as such at all.
• You must, however, be in possession of a WoW license; that means you must have already bought WoW (no matter in which version) once. WoW Classic is then automatically available to you since August 27, 2019.
• To play Classic, you also need an active subscription. Here, the regular prices apply as for Battle for Azeroth, a special Classic subscription does not exist. Both Classic and Battle for Azeroth are then available to you.
