Pokémon GO: Swap Pokémon - how it works

Pokémon GO players have been waiting a long time for the possibility to swap Pokémon. And finally the time has come: our guide shows you how it works and what needs to be considered for the exchange.

Since June 2018, you have been able to swap Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

Pokémon GO triggered a rarely seen enthusiasm. In the meantime, it has become somewhat quieter around the AR game, but the title is far from dead.

Pokémon GO: Swap Pokémon, but not for free

Following info you should know:
  • It is only possible to swap Pokémon from a certain level: Both players must therefore have at least level 10
  • The distance also plays a role. Thus, at the time of the exchange players may be a maximum of 100 meters away from each other.
  • The exchange also costs stardust.
  • The exact cost depends on the respective Pokémon, the friendship as well as trainer level and ranges from 4 to 100 stardust.
  • It looks even more difficult with self-hatched and iridescent Pokémon. These can only be exchanged once a day, and this is only possible with a super friend or best friend. The costs are also significantly higher for such a special exchange.
  • In addition, you and your friend receive for each exchange bonbons, the amount of which is determined by the distance between the places where the Pokémon were caught.

Pokémon GO: How to proceed to the Pokémon exchange

To exchange a Pokémon, first please open the friends list in the Pokémon GO app. Then select the friend you want to swap with from the list and tap "Swap" to start the swap.
