How to shred your hard drive thoroughly

With the help of a wide variety of free recovery programs, supposedly deleted data can be brought back to light quickly and easily. So that this does not happen to you after selling your PC or hard drive and you find your files on the Internet again in the worst case, you should shred your hard drive extensively beforehand. Simply deleting SSD and HDD is simply not enough, which is why certain tools are needed to ensure that your data is thoroughly overwritten and thus cannot be recovered. However, if the hard drive is also to be physically shredded in the truest sense of the word, then on the one hand you can find companies specializing in this on the Internet and on the other hand you have the option of purchasing a hard drive shredder.

• For a thorough cleaning, the free tool CCleaner is recommended. This offers under "Extras" the possibility of a "hard disk wiper", with which you achieve reliable results already after a few times of use.
• Also the "HDShredder" achieves good results when specifically overwriting your data and makes a recovery impossible. In addition, you should also run the program here several times over the hard drive. The program is thereby available in different, partly paid versions.
