Valheim: Find and use Obsidian - all info

As you travel through Valheim, you will find increasingly better and more powerful materials. Among the most valuable resources is obsidian. Read where to find the material and what it's good for.

The shiny black surface of obsidian already indicates that it is a valuable resource. A look at the items that rely on it confirms this.

Valheim: How to find obsidian

On obsidian here all the info you need to know:

• Obsidian can be found in the cold mountains, just like silver so.
• However, you do not need a divining rod (as for silver), because obsidian is already visible on the surface. These are dark deposits that are covered with snow.
• For mining, an iron pick is needed. Iron can be found in the swamp biome in the crypts, for which you need the key from the second boss.

For the obsidian search you should definitely be equipped with frost resistance. How to do this, we explain here. If you find it, you can make some really strong items, such as frost arrows, obsidian arrows and poison arrows. These are very strong against enemies with the corresponding elemental weakness and should therefore always be in your luggage.
