USB-Stick: Unprotect - how to do it

USB-Sticks have replaced the CD as the main storage medium. Some of the sticks have automatic write protection that turns on as soon as you pull the stick out of the PC without ejecting it first. This write protection cannot be removed easily.

How to unprotect a USB stick?

USB sticks are write-protected with different programs, but each write-protection can be bypassed.
  1. If it is a hardware write-protection, you can turn it off by a small switch on the USB stick. Usually there is a lock symbol next to the switch to symbolize the write lock.
  2. Should you not find a switch, it is a software lock. This is not so easy to circumvent in most cases. You need the software with which you have created the write protection. If you have no luck with this, you can still format the USB stick. However, all data will be lost.
  3. Open the Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows key + E. Klicken Sie nun in der Liste links auf Ihren Wechseldatenträger und wählen Sie „Eigenschaften“.
