Configuring AirPods - how to set the headphones

If you want to change the name of your Apple AirPods or adjust the different control options, it works with the help of the charging case and your iPhone or iPad. Get an overview of the different settings options for the headphones and how to apply them.

AirPods: Adjusting Settings

To configure your AirPods, you first need to open the charging case. Then you can access the settings of the headphones via your iPhone or iPad.
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on "Bluetooth" in the overview.
  3. Find the AirPods in the device list and tap on the blue info sign next to the device name.
In the settings, you can then change the name of the AirPods or adjust the various control options such as the double-tap action.Furthermore, you can turn on and off the automatic ear detection. When the feature is active, the AirPods will automatically detect when they are not in your ear and then stop playing music, for example.

Set Microphone

In addition to the control options, automatic ear detection and name, you can also customize which of the two AirPods should be used as the microphone. By default, this option is set to "Automatic", allowing both headphones to act as a microphone. For example, if you only wear one of the two AirPods, it will automatically be used as the microphone as well. However, in the settings you can also specify that only the right or the left AirPod should be used as a microphone.
