Mac OS X: Show drives on desktop

On older versions of the Mac OS X operating system, the drives are automatically displayed on your desktop. However, if you are using a newer version, you will need to manually display the drives on your desktop. To do this, you simply need to go to your computer's preferences.

How to display drives on your desktop

In order to have a better overview of all available drives, it is possible in Mac OS X to display them as icons on your desktop. In newer versions of the operating system, these are no longer displayed automatically. You have to enable them via the Finder preferences.

1. Open the Finder on your Mac. The icon for the program is usually located in the Dock.
2. Then click on the "Finder Settings" here. These can be found under "Finder" in the menu bar.
3. Now select the "General" option.
4. Here you then select all the drives you want to display on your desktop in the "Show these items on the desktop" area.

Dateien auf dem Schreibtisch verstecken

Möchten Sie Dateien und Ordner auf Ihrem Schreibtisch abspeichern, können Sie diese ausblenden, wenn Sie nicht möchten, dass andere sie sehen.

1. Gehen Sie hierfür mit Hilfe des Spotlights auf das Terminal Ihres Computers.
2. Geben Sie in die Konsole anschließend den Befehl „defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false“ ein.
3. Danach führen Sie den Befehl „killall -SIGHUP Finder“ aus.
4. Alle Dateien auf Ihrem Schreibtisch werden nun nicht mehr angezeigt.
