Microsoft Word: Setting DIN A5 - how it works

DIN A4 is the classic format and by far the most widely used. Nevertheless, other formats also have their raison d'ĂȘtre, first and foremost the handy A5. We show you how to set it.

A question of purpose: DIN A5 is small and handy - and that's why it's so popular.

DIN A5 resembles common paperback formats and is an important option for that reason alone. The conversion in Word is quite simple.

How to set A5 in Word

Proceed as follows:
  1. Every Word document is in A4 format by default. Click on "Page Layout" at the top.
  2. There, click on "Format" at the top left of the ribbon.
  3. Select "More Paper Formats".
  4. Click on the dialog box at "Paper Format" and then on "Custom Format".
  5. Now enter the official A5 values for width and height: 14.8 cm and 21.0 cm (width and height).
From the outside dimensions, your Word document now corresponds to DIN A5. Inside, the settings are left to you, since there is no standard for factors such as margins and line spacing. This depends not least on the intended use, in addition, the readability always plays an important role, just as with all other formats.
