WhatsApp: How expiring messages work - all info

Time limited: What Snapchat has long been able to do is now also available on WhatsApp. Our guide explains how expiring messages work and how you can use them yourself.

Chats with a half-life: Expiring messages have now arrived on WhatsApp.

Due to the large number of users around the world, the need for special options on WhatsApp is great. Expiring messages add an interesting feature to the spectrum.

WhatsApp: How to create expiring messages

You have to enable expiring messages separately for each chat where you want to use this feature. This is done as follows:
  1. Open the chat.
  2. Tap on the contact at the top.
  3. In the list of options you see there, select "Expiring messages".
  4. Activate the feature by setting it from "Off" to "On".
As you can read there, all subsequent messages in that chat will remain visible for seven days before disappearing if they are not read within that time. A freely selectable period WhatsApp does not allow (so far). The option is thus not fully comparable with the principle of Snapchat.Keep in mind when using the feature that there are various ways for your counterpart to save the message anyway, for example, by backing up the chat.
