WhatsApp: Bold text - how to format your messages

To highlight part of the text of your WhatsApp messages, it is a good idea to format it as bold. We explain here what options you have in the Messenger service to bold your messages and what other formatting options are available.

How to format text as bold in WhatsApp

To highlight certain words or entire sentences of your WhatsApp messages, the Messenger service offers you various formatting options. To bold parts of text, all you have to do is type the "asterisk" icon before and after the sentence or word you want to bold. As soon as you send the message, the correspondingly marked text part will be displayed in bold to your chat partner.

1. If manual formatting via character entry is too cumbersome for you, there is a second procedure to bold the text in WhatsApp messages.
2. To do this, tap on the word that is to be formatted as bold and hold it down until the "Select" button appears.
3. Please select this and then highlight all the words that should be bolded.
4. Tap on "BIU" afterwards and select the entry "Bold" from the four different formatting options.

Instead of bolding individual words or sentences, you can also highlight them in other ways. To make a text appear as italic, enter an underscore before and after the text respectively or select the "Italic" option under "Select" > "BIU". It is also possible to strike through parts of text in WhatsApp. To do this, insert a tilde before and after.
