Square brackets with Windows keyboard - this is possible

Setting brackets helps in various documents to include source references or other information in the text. Some keyboards clearly indicate which key you use to write the parentheses. However, a key combination is usually necessary, since the keys are usually assigned multiple times.

How to write square brackets on a Windows keyboard

Square brackets are needed to indicate additional information in a text. For documents, for example, write the abbreviation for a source citation or a physical unit in square brackets. If you use the Word word processing program, you can select and insert them using the characters. A faster variant is however the way over a key combination.
  1. To write a bracket on, thus a square bracket, which is open to the right side, hold down the "ALT GR" key. This is located on the lower right side. Alternatively, you can use the "Alt" key on the lower left side, but in this case you must also press the "Ctrl" key.
  2. Now press the "8" once.
