Excel: Square cells - how to adjust the format

If you want to change the default formatting of the cells in Excel, this works via the corresponding settings. For example, if you want the cells to be square, you need to adjust the row and column width. Learn how to proceed if you want to change the formatting of the cells manually.

Adjust cell size via the ribbon

You can adjust the cell size in Excel in various ways. You can find different formatting options in the ribbon. Follow these steps to adjust the size manually:
  1. Start Excel and open a document.
  2. Select the "Start" tab.
  3. Click the "Format" button in the "Cells" category.
  4. Click "Row Height" or "Column Width" in the menu to adjust the size of the cells.
  5. A new window opens in which you can specify a new size in points.
  6. Confirm the entry with "OK".
Square cells are obtained, for example, if you specify the value 26.25 as row height and 4.29 as column width.

Change cell size with the mouse - this is how it works

Alternatively to the ribbon, you can also simply adjust the cell size with the mouse. To do this, select the desired area of your worksheet.
  1. Then click the boundary line to the right of the column heading and drag it to the desired width.
  2. To adjust the row height, click the boundary line below the row heading and drag it to the appropriate size.
