WhatsApp backup: Windows Phone - how to do it

WhatsApp allows full backups of your chat history and media files on all systems. In doing so, it is possible to restore your data on a new device with Google Drive or with local backups. If you still have a Windows Phone, you can also transfer its files to a new device.

You can also easily create WhatsApp backups on Windows Phone and load them when needed.

Creating WhatsApp backup on memory card

Note that it is not possible to transfer a chat history from a Windows Phone to an Android smartphone or an iPhone, as support and manufacturing for the Windows Phone was discontinued some time ago. On a Windows Phone, you create a WhatsApp backup in a few seconds:
  1. Open WhatsApp on your Windows Phone and tap the button with the three dots.
  2. Go to "Chat Settings" via "Settings".
  3. There you will find the "Backup" option. Tap on the field and save the backup to the memory card.
WhatsApp backup load happens on its ownWhen you reinstall WhatsApp, you will automatically be asked if you want to load a backup. Confirm, and WhatsApp will load the latest backup from the memory card. You will then have all your chats and media files back on your smartphone. If you install WhatsApp on a new device, you must also transfer the backup file to the new device, otherwise it will not load.
