What is a NAS? - The hard disk system briefly explained

NAS is the abbreviation for "Network Attached Storage" and describes a file server, which is usually used in a private household. This is mainly used to quickly provide more storage capacity for users within a network.

This is what is meant by a Network Attached Storage (NAS)

As the name NAS already shows, it is a device with which it is possible to provide more storage space within a network. Even if PCs already have internal hard drives, this storage space is not always enough, so the extra space on the NAS server is useful. But also for sharing data within a network and storing the files of multiple users can be simplified with a NAS. For this, the NAS is connected to the router at home.
  1. A NAS has several hard drives to provide as much storage as possible.
  2. In addition, this is connected to a router with a cable.
  3. Meanwhile, there are already apps with which you can access your NAS within, but also outside the network to the contents.
  4. Even if you live alone at home, a NAS can be worthwhile. Here you can store your files and access them from various devices on the network. Thus, you can do without external services.
  5. A NAS usually offers the advantage, even for small businesses, that it is cheaper than public cloud systems. It is usually no expert necessary to use the NAS and the centralization of your data storage is more secure.
